TAKING THE COURSE

COURSE CONTENT

This complete course is designed to provide an all inclusive                                                            picture of the B&B business. The course will:

  • provide a realistic picture of Bed and Breakfast life and the commitment required so that learners can assess their suitability for it
  • help learners understand the physical plant requirements of a B&B and how to evaluate a property for B&B whether it is the one the student owns or one he is planning to buy
  • explain the management of a B&B business including how to write business plans, budgets, what room rates to charge, and discuss the importance of proper insurance and taking credit cards
  • study how to market your B&B stressing the importance of the Internet and web pages
  • show how to handle reservations and cancellations and set up appropriate policies and also set up house rules
  • describe B&B operations from welcoming guests, serving breakfasts to saying goodbye
  • discuss B&B hospitality and how to anticipate and meet guests' needs
  • show the techniques of turning your guests into repeat customers and making them salespersons for your B&B

By the end of the course, learners will have the practical tools and strategies for running a successful B&B and will have carefully researched their own 'dream B&B'. A business plan and budget will have been developed, a marketing program set out and a web site planned. The 'graduate' will be aware of the common pitfalls for new hosts, will have learned problem solving techniques and will have a greater respect for successful B&B hosts.

A certificate will be issued on completion of the course.

Course delivery:
This is an online course that also uses a textbook, a course manual, email interaction with instructors and a discussion forum with other students. Participants will submit assignments to the instructors for comments and feedback.
